Ingredients
1 pound (450g) beef (such as flank steak or sirloin), thinly sliced against the grain
1 large onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tbsp soy sauce
1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional)
1 tbsp cornstarch
2 tbsp vegetable oil (for cooking)
Salt and pepper, to taste
Optional: sliced green onions for garnish
Instructions
1. In a medium bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), and cornstarch.
2. Add sliced beef to the bowl; toss to coat with marinade. Let marinate for at least 15 minutes.
3. Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat.
4. Add beef to the skillet; cook until browned and cooked through (about 3-4 minutes). Transfer to a plate; set aside.
5. In the same skillet, add remaining 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil.
6. Add sliced onion to the skillet; cook until softened and lightly browned (about 5 minutes).
7. Add minced garlic to the skillet; cook for 1 minute.
8. Return cooked beef to the skillet; stir to combine with onion and garlic mixture.
9. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
10. Garnish with sliced green onions (if using).
11. Serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles.
